Project Progress

Hello there,

I feel like my last post may have diverged from what I had intended to talk about, but I felt it necessary to share some thoughts on current situations. Anyway, moving on from that, and speaking of current situations I want to give a little updated on the new project I mentioned before. My adventure is self-portraiture is ongoing and it has been quite an adventure of good and bad things, so far I’ve been really enjoying what I’ve doing even if the works are turning out quite different than I imagined when I started this process. It could just be the type of research I’ve been doing has been heavily focused around black and white photography and a lot of surreal cinematography and it has sort of bled into my own work (which I don’t doubt), but maybe it’s just telling of how it feels to work with myself. Huh. Either way I’m really enjoying the look so far it feels like things are starting to come together aesthetically even though some things still need to be worked through.

Overall, I think this change in style, even if it is more simplistic and certainly follows are more limited colour palette, is quite refreshing in an odd way that I can’t quite put my finger on.

I think I’ve been quite able to accomplish my union of mediums, but I still think I could add more of my drawings somehow to the pieces, but I’m just not sure how to achieve an aesthetic balance without the drawings overwhelming the self-portraits (after all my specialization for my degree is in photography so I don’t want to detract too much from images). Maybe it’s just the case of pushing myself more stylistically and just go crazy with it. Usually, I find the best approach when not knowing what to do with an artwork is to just leave it a bit, then come back and see where it takes you on a different day which is what I will do with this one with the hands (as yet untitled) since I feel like it is stil missing something.
